As directed by the Ranger in Charge or 2IC, you will plan for, and work with others to efficiently and effectively deliver, the Airlie Beach Work Unit's Operational Plan and Annual Work Plan. The primary focus of the role is delivery of the visitor infrastructure maintenance program and associated capital works. You will also operate and maintain plant and equipment, control pest plants and animals, undertake planned burning and wildfire suppression activities, compliance and park infrastructure maintenance tasks. Protected areas and State forests within the Airlie Beach work unit include Conway, Dryander and Cape Upstart national parks. It will be essential that you already hold a manual driver's licence and are willing and able to live in, travel to, work and camp overnight in remote and isolated locations, in varying climatic conditions. A reasonable degree of physical fitness is required. Most work is field-based, but you will also undertake administrative tasks. You will also perform various natural and cultural resource management duties. Practical skills and experience in the maintenance and operation of small power equipment and tools for asset maintenance is necessary. An important aspect of this role is providing on-ground supervision to field-based staff and working collaboratively with others. A strong personal work ethic and good communication and interpersonal skills is important. You need to be adaptable and flexible to on-the-ground service requirements to ensure superior park management services are achieved. As a OO4 Ranger, you must be able to:&#8226; communicate clearly&#8226; maintain a positive and supportive approach&#8226; work effectively in a team, as a supervisor and alone&#8226; undertake general estate development and protection duties&#8226; operate and maintain minor plant and equipment&#8226; assist in the development and implementation of the annual works program&#8226; undertake law enforcement and compliance duties&#8226; provide general information in response to queries from park visitors and other stakeholders&#8226; assist with emergency response&#8226; monitor workplace health and safety&#8226; undertake administrative duties including compiling and maintaining records and procuring goods and services&#8226; support and promote the interests of First Nations people.
